Back To Black
Six days only after taking us on a trip to the London docklands for his Menswear collection, Jean Paul Gaultier seems to have moved lock, stock and barrel over the Channel! This time, he whisked away his guests to Camden for a lively homage to Amy Winehouse with his Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2012 show.
While four crooners gave a capella renditions of the diva's classic tracks, stripped of any vocals, the models sported her iconic slick of eye-liner and wedge sandals, and flounced down the catwalk with the late singer's unique and inimitable style and attitude.
If the collection displayed plenty of rockabilly-inspired pieces (a baseball jacket with an hourglass silhouette, a dress version of the polo worn back-to-front in the purest of punk spirit...), the Gaultier style was never far away. The biker jacket was reinterpreted as a lace-up stole, whilst trench coats added splashes of colour in grass green or shocking pink. The famous corset was not forgotten, as clever lacing details were repeated throughout the whole collection.
For their final bow, models were sent down the runway wearing veils in a tribute that touched all the guests, including a visibly moved Dita Von Teese and Beth Ditto who was spotted singing along. All in all, we say 'Yes, yes, yes!' to this Amy homage.
